Hi,
There could be several reasons for an irregular or abnormal menstrual cycle.
Some causes include, weight gain, stress, hypothyroidism, gonadal hormonal imbalance, polycystic ovarian
syndrome, etc.
If you have been unable to conceive and have had irregular periods, you would be advised an ultrasound to
check for the state of the reproductive organs, followed by tests for hormone levels.
Any disorder diagnosed would need to be treated.
It is difficult to predict ovulation in an individual with irregular periods or with extended cycles unless
ovulation is accompanied by some physiological or physical changes. This can include pain, slight fever, etc.
Do post any results of tests you have had done so far and any other details related to your problem for a more
elaborate evaluation.
regards,
