ASD plus Factor V Leiden plus enlarged heart, advice needed.

	In need of advice!!!! Is pregnancy safe? I had a large ASD closed 17 months ago, due to the ASD not being found until recently I do have an enlarged ride side of the heart. I also have factor v leiden, one day I hope to have a family and am wondering if this would be advisable given the risks?

	Answer by Dr Vinod, MBBS,FcGP  (doctor) on Sun 19, Jul 2009 06:20pm: Dear Katie, As your Atrial septal defect is closed 17 months ago your cardiac blood flow can be tested and you can go for pregnancy under close supervision of your Gynaecologist and Cardiologist. But with additional problems you should always take a second opinion for pregnancy as it may be higher risk for the foetus. Get your case properly diagnosed, what stage of cardiomegaly you are? 1) Functional capacity of heart, 2) Quality of medical supervision provided during pregnancy, labour and puerperium.
