Hi,
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is a spectrum of infections of the female genital tract that includes
endometritis, salpingitis, tuboovarian abscess, and peritonitis.
Complications of PID may include any of the following: ectopic pregnancy (6 times more likely ; tubal damage
and scarring can result in infertility in 8% of women after a single PID episode); and chronic pelvic pain.
However, the outcome is good if diagnosed and treated early. With your PID treatment, there should be nothing
to worry about.
A Pap smear is a simple, quick, and relatively painless screening test. It identifies minor cellular
abnormalities before they have had a chance to become malignant and at a point when the condition is most
easily treatable. Diagnosis of PID is through pelvic examination and some adjunctive laboratory tests such
as ultrasound, ESR and C-reactive protein.
Take care and regards.
