Hi,
Ectopic pregnancy is not treated by D&C; D&C is only used to differentiate between a intrauterine and
ectopic pregnancy.
The management techniques for ectopic pregnancy depend on the mode of presentation; if the patient presents
with a ruptured ectopic, and has been hemorrhaging internally, major surgery is indicated to stop the bleeding
and to try to save the tube. If it is not possible to save the tube, the tube on the affected side is
removed.
If the patient presents to the hospital in a stable condition and the pregnancy has not ruptured, medical
management in the form of methotrexate is advisable. The recovery from this may take longer than the
laparotomy procedure.
The extent of the damage and the surgery undertaken will determine your chances of future pregnancy. If the
internal structures, such as the tube, was not damaged or injured, it is possible to conceive normally in the
course of time.
Normal duration of recovery from an ectopic pregnancy is about 2.5 to 3 weeks.
