Goodmorning Doctor, I am aged 40 years and was on a pill which i stopped taking last year October. I have my monthly periods
for three (3) months, then now i have these scantty periods for two weeks, though sometimes heavy. normally my periods only
go upto three days, what could be the problem with me

Hi,
How are you? Usually after stopping birth control pills the periods might be irregular for some time and
there could be change in the amount of bleeding as well. In your case, as the periods started off normally and
went on regularly for 3 months, the bleeding that you are experiencing now could not be related to this.
Abnormal bleeding for two weeks should be brought to the notice of your doctor.
The common causes for this could be perimenopause, hormonal imbalance, thyroid conditions, infections of the
vagina or cervix, fibroids or growths in the wall of the uterus.
I would suggest that you visit a gynecologist for pelvic examination, pap smear and further advise on
treatment.
