Hi Im 24 years old and have always had regular cycles. The longest I have ever been late is 2-3 days. I recently went off my birth control pills (in May) and had normal periods after that. However, my last period was July 12th and I am 12 days late. I have had abdominal cramping for the last week and have been feeling waves of nausea for about 2 weeks, more so this week. I have done 3 pregnancy tests and all were negative. Could I still be pregnant? Or could it be something else? I haven't traveled, or changed my diet or exercise regime at all. I looked at all these options, and I haven't been stressed at all. Life has been really good the last few months, so I doubt that's the reason for this. What else could it be? I have also noticed I have been starting to feel exhausted in the early afternoon. Normally I have quite high energy, so this is strange for me as well. Any ideas what it could be?

Answer by Dr. Srivastava (doctor) on Wed 19, Aug 2009 05:39am:

Hi, irregular periods are most commonly caused by changes in the patterns of the hormone levels, dieting, exercise, stress or after quitting birth control pills. With your description and negative pregnancy tests it is quite unlikely that you are pregnant. With the consultation of your doctor you may take short course of the oral contraceptive pill which will give you relief from this and your body might develop a better pattern of periods. Hope this helps.
