Answer by Dr Smita Sarwan (doctor) on Sat 12, Mar 2011 09:05pm:

Hi, It is usual to not to have periods after child birth. The periods could come after a month or sometimes even after 1 year. However if the periods are delayed you should definitely test for pregnancy. The delayed periods could also be due to other causes like hormonal imbalance, stress, chronic illness, thyroid dysfunction etc. If you are not pregnant then you may consult a gynaecologist for regularizing the periods. Hope it helps. Take care and keep posting.
