I am 34 and 20 weeks pregnant with my 5th child. I have a prolapsed cervix and although my doctor is not concerned I am. Is this condition harmful for the baby and will it effect delivery in any way? Should sex be avoided? I guess I am concerned mostly

	I am 34 and 20 weeks pregnant with my 5th child. I have a prolapsed cervix and although my doctor is not concerned I am. Is this condition harmful for the baby and will it effect delivery in any way? Should sex be avoided? I guess I am concerned mostly about the baby getting somehow lodged in the vaginal canal or the cervix not working correctly during delivery. If it is harmful what should I do? We tried 2 different pessaries with no luck.

	Answer by Dr Bhupinder K, MD (doctor) on Mon 20, Jul 2009 08:54am: Hello, Most of the time prolapse cervix in pregnancy is treated with a pessary (Smith-Hodge type) but severe and unresponsive treatment may require surgical treatments of prolapse like sacrospinous uterosacral ligament fixation.I would suggest you to consult your gynecologist for this.
