Just stopped breastfeeding. Does this cause you to miss a period?

	I recently stopped breastfeeding my 15 month old. Would this cause me to skip my period?

	Answer by Dr Rowena S, MD (doctor) on Wed 13, May 2009 12:48am: Hi, For some mothers, there may be an absence of menstruation for weeks and even years while still breastfeeding. Once menstruation returns it may continue to be irregular during lactation. When menstruation does return, fertility also returns although it is also possible to be pregnant before the first period returns. A pregnancy test may help determine if pregnant or not.
