Late hpt negative

Asked by hinge (Female; 28; When I was pregnant with my youngest it was a surprise because I had taken several hpt that were negative when I went to the doctor to get a pap she said that my cervix was blue and that meant that I was pregnant I told her that I had taken several hpt and all neg. So she sent me for blood work and came back net. Still convinced of pregnancy she sent me for a ultrasound and found out that indeed I was pregnant to be exact 6.5 weeks pregnant.; Relevant drugs:Prenatal vitamens ) on Tue 21, Apr 2009 05:38pm

I am now 1 week late for my period and have taken 1 pregnancy test today. My last period was on the 24 of march with a normal cycle of 24 days. My husband and I have had unprotected relations almost everyday since the 29 of march. I have frequent urination just about 1 every 30 min. Or a least every hour not just the urge I am actually peeing alot. Sore breasts and tired. What should I do. Should I go to the doctor for a pap again or just wait to see what happens. Why can the hpt not pick up my hcg. When should I take another hpt or should I. I worry about a blood test also because the last time I was pregnant it did not pick it up. When can I go for an ultrasound to see the uterus? Please help thanks

Answer by Dr Bhupinder K, MD (doctor) on Wed 22, Apr 2009 01:01am:

Hello, False negative pregnancy tests are also possible. It can also be due to low levels of HCG in a pregnant woman which are not enough to give a positive result on urine or blood examination. Most tests for pregnancy look out only for the presence of HCG in the body. But you can confirm the status of your pregnancy be getting a qualitative test for HCG which measures the amount of hCG or best is to get a transvaginal ultrasound done.Sometimes a perfectly healthy pregnancy may have low hCG levels also. Hope it helps.Take care and regards.
