Menstrual disorder

	I had an abortion when i was 16, i had another when i was 18 after that my doctor put me on contraceptives for 2yrs i decided to quit . I did not like the idea of drinking tablets everyday. Now i am 23yrs, for the past 5yrs(since i stop taking pills) my periods have been irregular. There was a time i did not menstruate for 6months i have done all test, ultrasound, tested my hormonal level they all seemed to be fine. Sometimes i will miss 6months then eventually menstruate. Most of the times i will menstruate in a month and skip 2 months before the other menstruation. When i menstruate , i bleed just very normally and for five days thats it. I need help. I am not ready for babies now but i will want them in the future. Is there a possibility that i will ever get pregnant again? What could be my problem?

	Answer by Dr Bhupinder K, MD (doctor) on Tue 28, Jul 2009 11:41pm: Hello, Since most causes of irregular periods have been ruled out in your case,so one possibility that needs to be explored thoroughly is PCOS. PCOS causes cysts to form on the ovaries, interfering with regular ovulation. Diagnosed by blood tests like blood insulin levels, serum testosterone and androgen levels and ultrasound.I sincerely advise you to discuss this possibility with your gynecologist.
