Overdue period, possible pregnancy, abdominal swelling with discomfort not pain, two morning bleeds when urinating, blood not in urine.

	I am overdue my period by a couple of days but for the last two days I have had a little bleed in the morning when urinating. I dont think that the blood is in my urine! It is a "possibility" that I could be pregnant as I am not using contraception. My abdominal area is also very swollen but not painful, just uncomfortable. I have not taking a pregnancy test as I am getting these bleeds, would you suggest I do take one??? If I am not pregnant why am I bleeding like this???

	Answer by Dr Bhupinder K, MD (doctor) on Thu 26, Feb 2009 07:30pm: Hello, Since you had unprotected intercourse and have missed your periods,so definitely pregnancy has to be ruled out.I would suggest a home based urine for pregnancy test for which kits are readily available in the market.Urine for pregnancy test should be done preferably 1 week after missed periods date.If your missed periods were not 1 week prior,then you can get serum HCG levels estimated from a gynecologist.This bleeding can be due to threatened abortion.So definitely status of pregnancy has to be confirmed.Best..
