Possibility of pregnancy but unsure and confused....

	Just under 2 months ago I started experiencing what can only be described as early pregnancy symptoms and these are still continuing. I have nausea sometimes throughout the day, sometimes only in the morning and before going to bed. My breasts are extremely sensitve to touch, mostly at the sides. I also have many little bumps around my nipples that I have not noticed before. I am currently recovering from a cold. My legs are quite itchy at times and my appetite has increased dramatically. I am also more tired than usual. However, last month my period came on time. It was, however, different. it last 6 days as normal but there were two days when I thought it had ended completely which has not happened in the past and I only had one heavy day. Is it possibe I could be pregnant?

	Answer by Dr. Rajgopal, MBBS (doctor) on Sat 05, Sep 2009 11:08am: Hi, The symptoms do suggest of pregnancy but having a regular menstrual cycle( though short) may go against the possibility. It could be possible that you are experiencing Phantom pregnancy wherein you have the symptoms but you are not pregnant. It could also be a pregnancy with bleeding. Another cause of pregnancy symptoms with scanty menstrual bleeding may be hormonal problems. All the possibilities need to be investigated. Please go for a urine and blood pregnancy test, and USG scan of the abdomen. If you are pregnant, please consult a gynaecologist for examination and know the cause of bleeding. If you are not pregnant, please consult an endocrinologist for the investigations to know the hormonal problem causing your symptoms. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
