Pregnancy concerns - Is this true labor?

Asked by Unregistered (Female; 28; 12553 ) on Sat 27, Dec 2008 06:51am

I am 38 weeks pregnant and i've been having some contractions which i think are braxton hicks. I've also passed a pinkish discharge. Sometimes the discharge appears brown with some mucous. There's also been a constant trickel of fluid from the night before christmas up until now. This is my third child, so when i went to the hospital i was checked and told that it was nothing serious, maybe just the onset of labor. I was permitted to return home for the Christmas to spend it with my family but was told that if the contractions get any more intense or closer apart, that i should immediately return to the hospital but I am a little concerned. The syptoms above remain the same: the discharge, the contractions, though not intense and regular and the occasional trickel of fluid. Should I return to the hospital or is this normal before actual labor. Can you offer me some advice on what is happening to me or to my baby?

Hi, Thanks for posting. It is difficult to tell without a clinical exam. However Braxton hick contraction and pinkish vaginal discharge with trickle of fluid usually indicate onset of labor. I would suggest you to check with your OBGYN and if possible undergo an ultrasound to make sure your baby is fine. Keep a watch on your contractions if they increase in intensity and frequency then please notify your doctor. Take care!
