TRYING TO CONCEIVE AT 36

Asked by liselh (Female; 36; Miscarriage at 12 weeks 3 years ago. Baby 2 years ago. Ectopic pregnancy 6 months ago. Miscarriage at 4.5 weeks 6 days ago. ) on Wed 16, Sep 2009 04:08am

I have regular 28 day periods however am only bleeding for approx. 48 hours per period. I am 36 years old. Does this mean that it may not be possible for me to conceive due to lack of hormones, as I recently experienced a miscarriage at 4.5 weeks (and then only bled for 36 hours). However a pregnancy test taken 2 days later showed a negative response so I know that my body is now back to normal. I already have a 22 month old son, but experienced an ectopic pregnancy earlier in the year. I kept both my tubes and exploration showed that after an operation both tubes were clear but was advised to wait 3 months which I did. I am desperate to have another baby but feel that time is running out.

Answer by Dr Veena, MD (doctor) on Fri 18, Sep 2009 01:36pm:

Hi, It is important to make yourself emotionally, physiologically( hormonal balance) and nutritionally compatible to give birth or plan for a child. Stress, chromosomal abnormalities, advancing age, reproductive organ pathology and medications all have an effect on chances of conceiving. Bleeding between 2-7 days every month is absolutely normal. I would recommend that you consult a fertility specialist, keeping in view repeated miscarriages for a Preconceptional counseling to have a successful and healthy pregnancy. Best.
