I fell pregnant about 5 years ago that resulted in miscarriage. Since then I have gained 60 pounds. My current dr is very passive. I have had a uterine biopsy, cervical biopsy, hystersalpingliogram, my husband has had a SA. All these tests came back normal. No ultrasound has been done to check for PCOS. I can not help but think weight is the reason I can not conceive. If I lose weight what are my chances that I will be able to conceive again. I did have 7 rounds of clomid that made me ovulate but no pregnancy. This is my first month off of clomid and my cycle is now at day 44. Prior to gaining all the weight my cycles were very regular at 28 days each month and I never missed one.

Answer by Dr Prithvirajan, MD (doctor) on Mon 12, Jan 2009 04:23am:

Hi, how are you doing today ? As for your question , polycystic ovarian disease can manifest as weight gain and disturbance in menstrual cycle like anovulatory cycles. Confirm with your gynecologist why was clomiphene citrate which is the key component in c lomid which is prescribed for females with pcod with an ovulatory cycles . So next thing you do is go for an usg-scan to rule out any cysts and the gynecologist will run you through some tests and confirm the diagnosis and direct a prompt treatment accordingly. No need to worry there is always these test tube baby option left for you to try out but only after your gynecologist opinion. Hope this clears out your question, hope to converse with you again. Have a nice day.
