Hi,
It is not normal to develop pain in the back this early into pregnancy.
The location of the pain you have described seems to be due to conditions affecting the kidney and can be due
to a kidney stone or local infection.
Women are more prone to developing kidney stones during pregnancy given the effect of progesterone on all
smooth muscles. This would impede the passing of a small kidney stone and can also cause problems such as
constipation.
You will need to have a urinalysis done and a CT scan if there are any abnormal findings on urine and blood
tests. An X-ray would have been ideal as a diagnostic test for identifying a kidney stone, but is
contraindicated in pregnancy.
Ensure that you keep you fluid intake over 2000 ml per day and add plenty of natural sources of calcium to
your diet.
Do keep us posted on any further doubts in this regard.
