	gud pm! doc . I am 31 yr old having unusual smell from my vagina sometime smelly sometimes not I noticed it for few mos. ago. What shld i do?

	Answer by Dr Bhupinder K, MD (doctor) on Thu 09, Sep 2010 06:47am: Hello, From the symptoms , bacterial vaginosis needs to be ruled out. It is caused by a change in the type of bacteria found in the vagina. In addition to unpleasant "fishy" vaginal odor, thin white or yellowish discharge from vagina may also be present. Diagnosis can be confirmed after pelvic examination and microscopic examination of the vaginal discharge. Treatment is by antibiotics( pessaries and oral antibiotics ) for which I would suggest a gynecologist’s evaluation. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and regards. She did papsmire to me too then she gave me this medicine name METRONIDAZOLE 500mg.I was so shy to ask any Question to her.My Question is ..Is it safe medicine? Including to put gel inside every 4 days and after menstruation.
