	hi, I am apparently 6wks 1day pregnant. Went for ultrasound and my dr called me back in today. He said the sono place diagnosed me as fetal demise. The paper said no heart beat. Im like ok, but some people may not have one and I have heard of many cases until 7wks. They did see a sack. I seen a sack. I had some pinkish discharge a day ago but he also did something like pap and stuff so I thought it could be from that. I dont have any bleeding yet. He said I could get another ultrasound if I wanted but that place was pretty good. He said that he would list it as fetal demise. Im like wow. He said the baby stopped growing. How is this so when the exact size of the baby and the amount of time im supposed to be pregnant adds up exactly. If the baby stopped growing wouldnt i be showing less than that amount of time and is it still posible to get a heartbeat later, like in a week or so. I was wondering cause I called and they said they were only going by the prelimary report which he gave me a copy of and it only says fetal demise no hrtbeat. Doesnt say anythign about size. They dotn have blood work back yet. Not sure of the size of the baby though, since the dr apparently is not sure either cause he doesnt have full report. He didnt seem really interested or fazed only thing he said is i could get another sonogram if i wanted.

Either there is some missing information or you should wait for 8 weeks of pregnancy before you repeat a trans-vaginal ultrasound. You are right. Some times the fetal heart rate comes as late as 9 weeks though usually it can be detected at 8 weeks. Either you are more than 6 weeks or there is some other reason for the doctor to be so sure. What you have been diagnosed as is probably blighted ovum. An anembryonic gestation is characterized by a normal-appearing gestational sac, but the absence of an embryo. Normally a gestational sca with a yolk sac appears at about 5 weeks of pregnancy and can be well visualized by 6 weeks on a transvaginal ultrasound. A pregnancy is anembryonic if a transvaginal ultrasound reveals a sac with a mean gestational sac diameter (MGD) greater than 13 mm and no yolk sac, or an MGD >18 mm with no embryo. Many centers offer mothers a follow-up ultrasound 10 days later to verify diagnosis. (Refer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anembryonic_gestation). Normally it is wise to wait until 10-11 weeks of pregnancy for a confirmed diagnosis of blighted ovum or fetal death. Meanwhile monitor the HCG levels. I suggest you wait and if you do not have bleeding consult another gynecologist before going for dilatation and curettage which you will probably need if it is indeed fetal demise. Hope this helps. 	Follow up: Clarification by User135288 on Wed 02, Jun 2010 08:17pm: Ok. My doctor just walked in. He didnt really look at much of anything. He seemed rushed. The sono place faxed them over a preliminary report saying + fetal demise no FHR Fetal age 6w 1d. That is all it said. He didnt tell me to get a follow up anything until i started questioning him. Im like well what did it said. First he said no heart rate but im like im still kind of early. Then he said the baby stopped growing and Im like well how big is it he said it say 6w 1d my lmp was april 27, which would I think go with the amount of it saying im prego. There is nothing else on here to even go off of. I mean I have some cramping but I had the same thing with my son and he is a happy 2 year old. I called the place and they said to call in the am and speak with supervisor cause my dr is gone on vaca or some type of conference and he is going to be gone. He didnt even refer me to a dr to get d&c he just said you have to find someone or go to hospital. He was not very nice. The day before I told him i didnt want to have my son at the hospital i had it at and his attitude was too bad i dont deliver anywhere you can find another dr. He was just a jerk to me. Now this report could be right but im just not sure. I think i am going to wait and see if I pass it on my own, if not go with another dr and get second opinion, and they can tell me what to do from there. I know it may be far off to hope for more, but knowing drs make mistakes and mines didnt seem to give a hoot. I dont know. He doesnt even have final report. What about the many women who were told they have blighted ovums and didnt. I dont know. But well see. Im starting to have badder cramps now, so who knows. Any extra input would be much appreciate. It is best to wait for another 1-2 weeks and get repeat ultrasound which can very well help us to confirm growth of the fetus or possibility of blighted ovum. Monitoring of HCG levels can also predict fetal status as it's depletion may help us to predict fetal death. As far as clinical bleeding is concerned, frank bleeding is not always a consequence of fetal death. As we do not know the ultrasonography report so commenting beyond this level is not possible.
