i am pregnant in 21 weeks now but at 17 weeks i did my blood test and come back positiv for spina bifidia 1.98 two weeks later my ultrasound come back good with no abnormalities i just wonder wich one is better the blood test or ultrasound ? with AFP 1.98

	i am pregnant in 21 weeks now but at 17 weeks i did my blood test and come back positiv for spina bifidia 1.98 two weeks later my ultrasound come back good with no abnormalities i just wonder wich one is better the blood test or ultrasound ? with AFP 1.98 is possible the baby to have spina bifidia even if the ultrasound say is nothing? 	Answer by Dr Bhupinder K, MD (doctor) on Thu 04, Jun 2009 02:29am: Hello, Since you had high levels of AFP on blood tests,so chances of spina bifida are there.But it can be confirmed only after a color Doppler or an ultrasound. The MSAFP test is not specific for spina bifida, and the test cannot definitively determine that there is a problem with the fetus.Ultrasound or amniocentesis may be needed to confirm the diagnosis.I would suggest you to get a repeat ultrasound done.
