is preganancy possible after 8 years of tubal ligation

	Asked by aliram (Female; 40; ovarian cyst off and on for 20 years, i miscarriage 8 1/2 years ago, 3 successfull pregnacies, 1 vaginal, 2 c-sections, partial removal of right ovary due to cysts.; Relevant drugs:seasonique birth control started in January 2009 ) on Tue 10, Mar 2009 11:28am
	I have had my tubes cut and tied for 8 years, I was recently started on seasonique back in January 2009, I started bleeding extremely yesterday and past alot of heavy tissue, the doctor says I may have had a miscarriage according to finding on a vaginal sonogram. How could I have been pregnant after all these years of having my tubes cut and tied and not have known.

	Answer by Dr Bhupinder K, MD (doctor) on Tue 10, Mar 2009 07:16pm: Hello, The chances of pregnancy after tubal ligation are rare but not impossible.To completely rule out pregnancy and miscarriage,I would suggest serum HCG levels done.If the value is greater than 5 mIU then chances of miscarriage are there.Hope it helps.
