question about a supposed misscarriage, have not passed any clots but u/s came out clear. still testing positive for pregnancy.

	Asked by Unregistered (Female; 25; 15338; 25 yr old female dr's have been unable to officially diagnose poly cystic ovarian syndrome even though I have many of the symptoms, had one previouse misscarriage and supposedly just had another one. had some cramping and light spotting, the cramping got quite bad althought the spotting never did. bad cramping lasted one day, spotting was brown but is now bright red. no more cramping. was told a week ago after the u/s saw nothing it was a complete abortion, however my breasts are still swelling and sore, and when i sit up or down i still feel pregnant, my belly is also starting to swell my lmp was dec 12 however i don't have a regular 28 day cycle it's closer to 35 days or more.; Relevant drugs:dr put me on metformin not for diabetes ) on Sat 07, Feb 2009 10:42am
	was told i had a complete spontaneous abortion however i have mmisscarried before and I knew what to be looking for and I am possitive that i have not passed any clots, if i had miscarried as early as the dr thinks, lmp is dec 12, u/s was done feb 2 and showed no sign of a fetus or any other masses in my tubes, why are my breasts still swelling and sore, so noticibly that my husband brought it up, and i was still testing positive jan 30, my question is , is it possible to still be pregnant even after an ultrasound has come back showing no signs of a fetal pole?

	Answer by Dr Veena, MD (doctor) on Sat 07, Feb 2009 11:24am: Hi, There is a chance of being pregnant even when there is no fetal pole visible through U/S if it was a ectopic pregnancy. The other causes could be trophoblastic disease or hydatid mole. Also, in case of miscarriage the pregnancy test could show positive results for some time, but it is necessary to estimate HCG quantitatively to confirm miscarriage. It is not necessary that clots should be passed after miscarriage, it depends upon the gestation period when the miscarriage has occurred.
