The irregularity in your menstrual cycle may be responsible for the difficulty in conception.In an irregular
menstrual cycle,it becomes difficult to predict the date of ovulation and hence intercourse around ovulation
cannot be done.
Various causes for irregular menstrual cycle are stress,weight gain or loss,overexercising,smoking,excessive
consumption of coffee,hormonal changes, polycystic ovarian syndrome/estrogen dominance or uterine
abnormalities (fibroids/cysts/polyps/endometriosis.The exact cause can only be identified after a detailed
history ,pelvic examination and investigations like blood tests and ultrasound uterus.
Moreover,it is not compulsory that the difficulty in conception is due to irregularity only.It can be due to
various other causes.It may be due to problems in
ovulation,tubes,uterus,cervix,endometriosis,pituitary,hypothalamus or secondary male infertility. Also,the
quality of egg and sperms decrease with advancing age.Exact cause for difficulty in conceiving can only be
diagnosed by investigations to weed out the various possibilities and then confirming a diagnosis.
