under 25 and want a smear test

	i am 23 and have been told i can not have a smear test as i am under 25. my mum and gran both have had cancer cells removed and i am really worried, can you please tell me how i can get around this with my doctor, thanks . charlotte

	Answer by Dr Rowena S, MD (doctor) on Tue 07, Apr 2009 03:36am: It is important for all women to have Pap tests, along with pelvic exams, as part of their routine health care. You need a Pap test if you are 21 years old and above or under 21 years old and have been sexually active for 3 years or more.
