In artificial insemination, washed semen is introduced into the uterus & then the natural process of egg meeting the takes place. For this your ovulation & tubal patency must be normal. In in-vitro fertilization, there is no contact with donor semen. Your eggs will be taken & fertilized with the donor sperms in a laboratory, then the fertilized embryo is introduced inside your uterus. The procedure is done under sedation & hence no pain is felt.
