Endometriosis is characterized by the presence of tissue which is identical to the inner lining of the uterus wall in other organs outside the uterus. This could be pelvic and lower abdominal cavity structures such as the ovary. The cause is not yet well understood. Treatment will depend on the extent and symptoms that are observed.
