	Answer by Dr Veena, MD (doctor) on Fri 18, Sep 2009 01:58pm: Hi, Ovarian cysts occur due to thyroid dysfunction, hormonal imbalances, obesity, medications like tamoxifen usage etc. If they are functional cysts then they can be easily reversible and do not require any surgical removal. But if they are enlarging in size and are lasting longer then should be surgically removed and tested for malignancies. Best.
